I don’t know about you, but I am feeling a bit worn down. While I am safe and warm (and so grateful) I’m worried for those facing cold temperatures without electricity or heat–or homes. While I am not even actually in a targeted state, I’m exhausted by the relentless tide of negativity that has accompanied this election. I have clients who are worn to a frazzle worrying about the outcome of the election.
Maybe you are affected directly by the storm damage, or you are even more worn out by the election coverage than I am. So, today, I am revisiting some ideas for supporting self-care that I have written about before.
- I’m inviting you to consider hitting the pause button on whatever worry you are facing.
- That might include taking a break from your relationship with technology–including the news.
- It can help to identify the things that center you.
- If all else fails, remember that you can choose to just breathe.
Whatever your political beliefs, whether you are rebuilding from the storm (or from cancer, or from heartbreak, or from any other struggle), I hope that you are taking steps to notice and honor your self-care needs. In the days and weeks ahead, taking care of yourself will make you better able to take care of others.
